Mr. Wilder
This is a drawing of Gene Wilder that I did about a year ago. I had just finished his memoir, Kiss Me Like a Stranger, and was inspired to draw him. A few minutes ago I mailed said drawing to Mr. Wilder. Well, his agent or something, I guess. I hope to get it back signed. To have a signed drawing of one of my idols would be... amazing.
However, I have heard less than wonderful things about Gene Wilder's willingness to respond to autograph requests. Sometimes your picture gets sent back unopened, sometimes you get a letter that says he just isn't in an "autographing mood". I have this scene replaying over and over in my mind of him receiving my drawing, glancing at it, and throwing it directly in the trash. I will be crushed if I never see my drawing again. I will also be crushed if I get it back unsigned.
Well, here it goes. My friend Alex sent a picture to him a while ago and did get it signed, though it took about 3 months. So this is probably going to be a long wait. I will of course let you all know how it turns out. Wish me luck.

awww my lovable little Molly. I remember you showing me this portrait of Gene right after you made it and let me tell you folks, it's jaw-dropping to see it in real life!
This is an exciting post and also kind of scary!! I only hope for the best in your drawing returned to you, haha. SIGNED even!! Jeez, how awesome would that be?
I wish you and I could build a time machine to go back and have a certain Mr. Keaton sign your portrait of him. And then you both could make out while I watch. HOT DAMN
Yay! Molly! And she has a blog! Que Fantastico! Bitchin' drawing by the way. Im sure he'll love it. It cant be worse than my experience of meeting Bruce Campbell. I tired to just give him a sketch I had done of him and he was about to sign it and I said "No no, its for you, its a gift" and he just kinda looked at i an set it on a pile of other gifts he had received at that book signing. Sigh.
So quality! Hopefully you won't get it back with a big grease stain or coffee cup ring on it.
So beautifully done! I send all my good vibes to Mr. Wilder in hopes that he will be in a autographing mood!
Nico- Aww thanks Nico! If this time machine works out, let Kali know that she can join in for some hot triple-kiss action.
Monique- I'm sorry to hear your Bruce Campbell story! I've heard other less-than-fantastic stories about his interaction with fans. If I were him, I would proudly display your drawing in my home!
Jess- I sure hope Gene doesn't love his potato chips.
Hellen- Thanks for the vibes! Hellen vibes are the only vibes I trust.
you are so talented. i am excited to see this side of you. i had no idea that you were an artist! excellent! xoxoxo i hope he sends it back! if not i may have to go talk to him myself!
Thank you, Jenny! I am really enjoying reading your blog as well!
i am glad you are enjoying it. this blogging thing makes me feel much closer to tucson, which is such a good feeling! xoxoxo
Beautiful! You've got a gift. Fingers crossed for the safe and authenticated return!
You're a mime!
OH MY GOD!
It's Willy Wonka / The Waco Kid / Eugene Grizzard / Young Frankenstein HIMSELF!
I love it, Molly. Consider me a new reader of your blog!
I should comment on-topic:
This is an amazing portrait, of course! I'm sure it found its way to the top of his fan mail pile, via the magic of brilliant art.
I can't wait to see how much further you will advance with the help of your portrait classes and all of your practice.
<3 I wish you many lucks
