Self-Portrait

The very first assignment in my Drawing Fundamentals 2 class was to draw a self-portrait. I don't like the way mine came out, I think I look pretty terrifying and not much like me, but oh well. The Drawing Studio offers a portrait drawing class, which I can't wait to take once this class is done. I'd love to become better at portraits, because I find people to be by far the most interesting things to draw.

Even though I continue to feel very insecure about my drawings, it does make me feel a bit better to look around the class and realize that, though mine could be better, they are still among the top of the class. So maybe school isn't all bad.

P.S. Yes, my hair is that short now, I chopped it all off once again.

Sometimes the hardest person to draw is yourself. I have no idea why, since we all look at ourselves in the mirror every day of our lives! But hey this is a great start anyway, and I can't wait to see the next assignments you'll get! Yay Molly!!!!!

I like your drawing! At least you aren't a kitty cat frame.

I think yours turned out real nice. Much better than your first one that the teacher worked on as well. His looked like Mick Jagger or something.

Even if it doesn't look exactly like you, it at least looks like a person. Which is more than the others could say, I'm sure.

I really think you should just buy the bad drawings from your classmates and post them in the internet. :)

P.S. Wonderful hair.

Oh! and I've been meaning to ask ever since my painting class, how good is your instructor's work?

Honestly, I think it's pretty good. I couldn't do damn near that, that's for sure. I am consistently impressed.

Hehe! This is awesome :)
Self portraits are my enemy, I always see myself and my twin so I'm sick of seeing our face.

Keep up the great work!

I think it's good for a start! Were you drawing yourself in the mirror or were you looking at a photo?

Nico- Thank you! I will keep posting assignments!

Jess- Yeah but I bet I could do a better job drawing a kitty in a frame.

Casey- His was more sketchy and artistic looking, but yeah, very old and mannish.

Darby- Our instructor is really awesome. He's very talented, especially at portraits.

Dave- Thank you! I'm always impressed with your writing.

Ben- How could anyone get sick of such a beautiful face??

Shawn- It was from a mirror! Believe me, I would have kicked my face's ass (what?) if I could have done it from a photograph.

Portraits are very tricky, I spent my whole senior year in high school doing self portraits. And I just finished one for my digital painting class the other day. I will eventually post it.
Your drawing is definitely on the right track.
BTW, I love short hair, and I wish I could get away with mine being that short.

This drawing of you blows mine (mine drawing of you done in high school the sophomore year) out of the water. You do an extraordinary thing with a pencil, me lady.
